A U-Report Poll was launched asking
U-Reporters between the age of 11 and 18 about “Out Of School Girls in India” and to take a pledge for action, the findings of this was presented by Yasumasa Kimura, Deputy Representative, UNICEF, India.
The Cabinet minister of MWCD, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani addressed the contribution of U-Report during this event and its relevance for the youth of India.
- Key findings:
- 1. One-third of respondents knew a girl who dropped out of school.
- 2. The dropout girls are mostly engaged either in domestic work or have been married
- 3. A third of these girls wish to go back to school
- 4 1 in 5 girls out-of-school girls visit Anganwadi centres for services
