We Work
U-Report is happy to see your interest in its
participation and we value your membership. U-Report
is a project of UNICEF (United Nations Childrens’ Fund) which engages youth and
communities from all over India on its platforms through popular messaging
applications (WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram). The U-Report India operates on WhatsApp (+91
96504 14141), Telegram (@Ureportindia_bot),
and on Facebook Messenger (https://www.facebook.com/UReport.India),
where you can connect with us by saying “HI”. In drafting this privacy
statement, U-Report India has taken cognizance of the guidelines of data
privacy and security laid down in the Indian IT (Information Technology) Act,
2000[1] , the
GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) and the data principles of UNICEF[2] , and
has tried to implement these to the best of ability. Any user who joins or is registered on the U-Report
India platform shall be referred as a U-Reporter.
Our
Purpose
We want to Empower young people to speak out on issues that
they care about in their community and to encourage them to inspire development
and create positive changes. This includes:

Empowering young people to
share opinions on issues that matter to them.[3]

Ensuring U-Reporters get value
from their participation.
·
Providing valuable information
to community members and government.
·
Providing or referring
U-Reporters to useful information and resources
·
Amplifying voices for advocacy
at local, national, and global levels.
·
Reducing the distance between
government and constituents.
·
Using citizen data to improve
accountability and strengthen programmes.
·
Influencing positive
behavioural change.
·
Ensuring U-Reporters are given
feedback on how data is used
·
Use the tools available to
provide virtual health, education, and protection services
Data
usage:
1. We
do not collect or store any of your Personal Data when you sign up to become a
U-Reporter. The only data that is collected and stored for a U-Reporter is - Location
(State, District or Pin Code), Age and Gender which is stored against your
unique, auto-generated U-Reporter ID.
2. The
exception to the above is when you are eligible for a certificate or are chosen
for a reward from/by U-Report India. In this case, we will request your
personal information such as, Name, E-Mail address, Postal Address, Phone
Number, current State &/or Pin Code with your consent (parental consent in
case of minor) so that we can send you the said certificates or rewards. We do
not share this information with anyone other than the partner /entity
responsible for sending you the said certificates or rewards. After such
certificates or rewards are disbursed, all additional information shall be
deleted, and will not be available for any other purpose.
3. Under
no circumstances is any data shared with anyone for commercial purposes.
4. We
do not collect any data automatically from your personal device.
5. We
do not knowingly collect any Personally Identifiable Information[4], if
you think that you might have shared any Personally Identifiable Information
with us, you can let us know about the same through our contact us option on
the U-Report India chatbot and we will delete it accordingly.
6. We
do not knowingly collect any Personally Identifiable Information[5], if
you think that you might have shared any Personally Identifiable Information

7. Third party platforms such as WhatsApp, Facebook
Messenger and Telegram, thorough which U-Report India operates, may have
additional terms and conditions applicable to the use of service on their
platforms, which may include privacy and personal data terms; these terms are
not from UNICEF and UNICEF is not responsible for any such third party terms.
Usage
of U-Reporter responses to interactions on U-Report India
1.
Interactions include
but are not limited to polls, quizzes, tasks and/or surveys.
2.
We maintain
transparency of responses provided by U-Reporters by displaying all responses
on U-Report India website: https://india.ureport.in/ under the “Opinions”
Section. The website is accessible to all public.
3.
The responses are
further analyzed to:
a.
draw programme and policy insights. Such
insights maybe shared with various UNICEF partners including CSOs, UN agencies,
media outlets, and also relevant Government stakeholders. Again, only
aggregated, anonymous responses are used for any analysis or dissemination of
insights.

4.
We do not use the
U-Reporter responses for any commercial purposes.
Updating
and deleting profile
1. You
can access your profile to update any information provided at the time of
registration (location, age, gender) through the U-Report India Main Menu over WhatsApp
or Facebook Messenger or Telegram.
2. At
any point of time, you can either opt out of receiving any messages from us (we
will not send you any messages or updates regarding U-Report India if you
choose this option) or choose to delete your profile entirely (this will remove
your profile completely from U-Report server and you will lose all progress).
Validity
of registrations
1. A
user self-reports their location, age, gender information during registration
on U-Report India. U-Report India has no other means of acquiring this
information. Based on such self-reported information, some interactions on
U-Report may be targeted towards U-Reporters of a certain age group or gender
or location.
2. WhatsApp
& Telegram are messaging platforms that require a legal/valid phone number
to sign up. This automatically means that any U-Reporter who has registered through
WhatsApp and/or Telegram are either of a legal age of maturity or is
interacting with us under the supervision of a person who is either his/her
parent or legal guardian.
3. Facebook
allows anyone above the age of 13 to register on its platform, which
automatically means that any U-Report India registration done through Facebook
messenger is valid.
4. U-Report
India will never share any content that may be considered harmful to children
of any age, gender or ethnicity.
Alerts
We may alert you through WhatsApp/ Facebook Messenger/
Telegram to inform you about new interactions available/ live on U-Report or
other information which we feel might be useful for you.
Payments,
transactions & Rewards
1.
We do not ask for any
kind of payment or any transactions at any point of time during registration, interaction,
update, or deactivation of your U-Report India account.
2.
You might be eligible
for rewards, and certificates which you will receive without any monetary
exchange.
3.
You will receive
U-Points for select interactions on U-Report India, these U-Points may be used
to choose you for a reward or certificate. The U-points cannot be exchanged or
redeemed for any monetary benefit, and all rewards will be decided at the sole
discretion of UNICEF or specific partner agency.
Termination
of User
Termination can
occur due to performance of any “Unacceptable conduct” mentioned in Point B of
this statement.
A.
Termination by U-Report India: U-Report India, has authority over termination of
user/member, (without penalty) may suspend or terminate user at any time.
U-Report India may at any time stop or suspend provision or access to the
Services with or without notice, meaning thereby, your access to the Services
may be affected without prior notice, and you agree that U-Report India will
not be held responsible to you for any such termination/suspension either
temporary or permanent. Any suspected fraudulent, illegal, or abusive activity
may be referred to appropriate authorities in force for the time being.
B. Unacceptable
Conduct:
1.
Posting or uploading any
defamatory, libelous, or inaccurate content to U-Report India.
2.
Posting or uploading
any user content or other content that is unlawful or that a reasonable person
could deem to be objectionable, offensive, indecent, pornographic, harassing,
threatening, embarrassing, distressing, vulgar, hateful, racially, or
ethnically offensive, or otherwise inappropriate.
3.
Posting or uploading
harmful files, such as disseminating viruses, adware, spyware, worms, or other
malicious code to U-Report India
4.
using the Services in
any manner that is harmful to minors, or in any manner that violates U-Report’s
Reputation on any Platform operated directly or in partnership of U-Report
India.
5.
impersonating any
person or entity, falsely claim an affiliation with any person or entity which
either by express means or implied represents oneself as a part of U-Report
India Personnel list.
6.
making unsolicited
offers, advertisements, proposals, or send junk mail or spam to other Users or
the U-Report Personnel (including, but not limited to, unsolicited advertising,
promotional materials, or other solicitation material, bulk mailing of
commercial advertising, chain mail, informational announcements, charity
requests, and petitions for signatures).
7.
Using the Services for
any illegal purpose, or in violation of any local, state, national, or
international law, including, without limitation, laws governing intellectual
property and other proprietary rights, and data protection and privacy.
8.
defaming, harassing, abusing,
threatening or defrauding Users of the Services through any available
platforms, or collect, or attempt to collect, personal information about Users
or third parties without their consent.
Harm
to Your Electronic Device: U-Report
thoroughly verifies all its content including the downloadable multimedia
content that is sent to you as a part of any interaction. At no point of time
U-Report will share any malicious content that can potentially harm your
device.
