UNICEF India conducted a Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices
(KAP) poll on online safety through the U-Report India platform, collecting
25,626 responses between June and July 2024. This poll was conducted by
U-Report India in coordination with various UNICEF India Country Office Sections including
Key Findings
Demographics: 38% of respondents were under 18;
55.8% were female.
Online Behavior: 40% spent over four hours
online daily, with males at 44%.
Perceived Threats: Females reported higher
concerns about stalking (42%) and bullying (33%).
Cyberbullying: Strangers (70%) and peers (41%) were key perpetrators.
Preventive Measures:
59% favored awareness campaigns and school programs.
Strong passwords (79%) and avoiding strangers online (68%)
were top strategies.
Role of Parents/Teachers: 68% highlighted the importance of recognizing online threats, while 66% emphasized the need for guidance on using safety tools effectively.
Recommendations:
Implement peer-led initiatives.
Integrate online safety into parenting programs.
Strengthen policies through stakeholder collaboration.
