Revealing Girl Empowerment

U-Report India, supported by UNICEF, plays a crucial role in empowering girls by providing a platform for them to voice their opinions on various issues affecting their lives. It engages with young people through polls and surveys, amplifying their perspectives on education, health, and social issues. This initiative helps advocate for policies and interventions that can positively impact the empowerment of girls in India.

In a  January 4, 2024  survey conducted on U-Report India, UNICEF aimed to gauge the perspectives of young people regarding the advancement of girls' rights globally . A total of 38649 U-Reporters responded to various questions with the 4% response rate, providing valuable insights into the challenges and aspirations surrounding girls in today's society.

The aim of surveys conducted by U Report India, with support from UNICEF, is to empower child girls by actively seeking their opinions and insights on various issues. These surveys serve to understand the challenges, needs, and aspirations of girls, particularly in areas like education, health, and protection. By collecting and analyzing this data, U Report India aims to advocate for policies and interventions that address the specific concerns of child girls, contributing to their empowerment, well-being, and the overall promotion of their rights and equality.


1.Global Action for Girls' Rights

As a survey conducted by U Report India 38,649 responded out of 889,520 polled, a significant 62% expressed their support for global action to advance girls' rights, highlighting a collective desire for positive change. This engagement emphasizes the importance of amplifying youth voices in shaping advocacy efforts U Report India, actively contributes to promoting and safeguarding the rights of child girls. It empowers them by giving them a voice through surveys and polls, allowing their opinions on issues related to education, health, and protection to be heard. By amplifying these voices, U Report India helps raise awareness and advocate for policies and programs that prioritize and protect the rights of girls, contributing to their overall well-being and development. 


2. Discrimination Against Girls

A concerning aspect revealed by the survey is that 64% of 24,874 responded out of 27,079 polled respondents feel that girls are discriminated against in their country. This statistic emphasizes the urgent need to address systemic issues hindering girls' equal participation and opportunities. U-Report India, plays a vital role in addressing discrimination against girls. Through its platform, it gathers insights and opinions from girls on various issues they face, including discrimination. By amplifying these voices, U Report contributes to raising awareness about the challenges girls encounter, fostering dialogue, and advocating for policies and interventions aimed at eliminating discrimination. The platform serves as a powerful tool to promote gender equality and create positive change in society.


3. Reporting Wrongdoings

The survey explored the belief in the ability to report wrongdoings. With 62% agreeing that girls can report and be believed, it underscores the necessity of fostering a safe environment where girls feel empowered to speak out against injustice without fear of dismissal. Report India, provides a platform for girls to report wrongdoings, including any form of abuse or discrimination they may face. Through surveys and polls, the platform allows girls to share their experiences anonymously, ensuring a safe space for disclosure. The collected data can be used to identify patterns, advocate for necessary interventions, and raise awareness about the issues affecting girls. U Report India plays a crucial role in empowering girls to speak up against wrongdoings and contributes to creating a supportive environment for addressing these concerns.


4. Educational Priorities 

Regarding educational priorities, the data reflects a strong emphasis on access to schools and colleges (40%), demonstrating the recognition of education as a key factor in empowering girls. Additionally, addressing gender-based violence in educational settings emerged as a priority for 18% of respondents. This information helps identify key areas that require attention, such as access to quality education, gender-sensitive policies, and barriers girls may face in pursuing education. U Report India contributes to advocacy efforts, influencing educational policies to prioritize and address the unique requirements of girls, promoting equitable access to education for all.


5. Empowering Girls in Decision-Making

When it comes to empowering girls to make decisions about their bodies, the survey highlights a diverse set of priorities. Notably, 60% of respondents emphasized the importance of educating parents on girls' rights, showcasing the significance of involving families in fostering supportive environments. By amplifying their perspectives, U Report India contributes to breaking down barriers and advocating for inclusive decision-making processes. This initiative promotes the idea that girls should be actively involved in shaping policies and programs that affect their lives, leading to more empowered and inclusive decision-making in the realms of education, health, and other critical areas.
