U-Ambassador: Sharmin of Karnataka Empowers Young Women Through U Report Initiatives

In the vibrant state of Karnataka, the tireless efforts of U-Ambassador Sharmin Banu M S are making a profound difference in the lives of young women. Since 2020, she has been actively involved in organizing U Report Information sessions and events, working tirelessly to empower the youth with knowledge and opportunities.

Sharmin's dedication reached new heights in the year 2023 when she orchestrated a particularly fruitful session on October 7th, during the Closing Ceremony of the State Level Rajyapuraskar Testing Camp, also known as the Governor Award. This event brought together associations from three different districts in Karnataka, uniting over 90 female participants in the picturesque city of Mangalore.

Not content with this success, Sharmin continued her mission during the celebration of International Day of the Girl Child on October 11th, 2023. This time, her efforts were focused on her home district of Udupi, where she shared an informative session on U Report India with over 200 Government Women's First Grade Degree College students at Ajjarkad.

During these sessions, Sharmin ensured that the participants were well-informed about U Report's youth-led initiatives, emphasizing the importance of career guidance, FunDoo for life skills and career exploration, and engaging in a crucial conversation about mental health through the U Report platform.

The impact of these events was far-reaching, and the support from The Bharat Scouts & Guides and the Department of Government Women's First Grade College Ajjarkad added to their success. A remarkable 300+ female members attended Sharmin's sessions, and more than 100 of them decided to become U Reporters, signifying a substantial increase in youth engagement with the U Report initiative.

Sharmin's dedication doesn't stop here. She has plans for two to three more events in the month of October 2023, demonstrating her unwavering commitment to empowering the youth of Karnataka.

As a U-Ambassador in Karnataka State, Sharmin Banu M S continues to be a shining example of how the U-Ambassador program is making a significant impact in communities, bridging districts, and fostering youth-led initiatives that have the potential to change lives. Her efforts are a testament to the power of young leaders who are determined to make a difference in their communities and beyond.
